You could try some home remedies. Slice a tomato and rub it on the sore - I've tried this and it has worked, but the cold sores came back.

Apply petroleum jelly.

Take zinc tablets.

Rub on tea tree oil or even ordinary tea bags.

Rub aloe vera on the lesion to dry it out.

I have tried some of the above remedies, and some worked, but the cold sores reappared again and again.
