Cold sores and canker sores are the two most common disorders in the human mouth. If you know the difference between the two, this will help your choice in treatment.

Milk of magnesia in small amounts can then be applied to the canker sore 3 or 4 times daily - soothing the canker sore and helping the healing process.

Cold sores are different. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Cold sores have been known to return even after the first sore is gone. Since it is a virus, it can be transmitted very easily through kissing.

Science has yet to find a cure for the herpes virus, so until then, one must rely on cream and other medication to take care of outbreaks.
