Cold sore treatments are essentially categorized into two broad groups, over-the-counter (OTC) medications and creams, and home cold sore remedies. In this article, we will look at OTC medications as well as home remedies for cold sores available for our use.

In case you do not know, cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Even this virus has two types, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 is the one that normally causes facial cold sores, though Type 2 has also been reported to cause sores on our face too even though it is mainly responsible for genital sores. Though huge investments have been poured into researching for a cure for cold sores, unfortunately, the medical industry has yet to be able to formulate a complete cold sore treatment to eliminate cold sores. What we have in the market are only medications and creams that can soothe the pain and bring itch relief and in some cases, quicken the healing process. Natural cold sore treatment seems to have answers to curing cold sores but as there have not been conclusive medical researches done in this area, only those who have benefited personally can testify of their effectiveness.

Over-The-Counter (OTC) Medications and Creams

As mentioned, such a form of cold sore treatment is primarily intended to alleviate the pain, itchiness and discomfort to the sufferer. There are others that have antiviral and antibiotic properties that inhibit the cold sore lesion development and accelerate the healing process.

1. You can easily find products containing docosanol, benzocaine, lidocaine, camphor, zinc, lysine, tetracaine or phenol off the shelf that are effective against cold sores.

2. Lip balms containing the compound petrolatum are pretty effective moisturizers. They prevent cold sores from peeling, cracking and bleeding and offer pain relief.

Home Remedies for Cold Sores

Cold sore remedies are cheap and easy to prepare cold sore treatments.

1. Applying ice at first sign of tingling for about 20 minutes and repeated applications throughout the day is effective in slowing the cold sore lesion development.

2. Topical medication containing zinc is useful

3. Applying tea bags on your cold sores is another effective cold sore treatment. As tea contains tannic acid which is antiviral, the herpes simplex virus is suppressed.

4. L-lysine (2 to 4 g) may be consumed daily under the advice of your doctor.

These are some useful cold sore treatment methods. To learn more about how to cure your cold sores naturally with effective cold sore treatment and remedies, visit my blog.

A cold sore is a blister which appears on a person's lip or the edge of the mouth and is caused by infection with the HSV (herpes simplex virus). Such blisters will usually break open and weep clear fluid and then crust over and finally disappear after a few days. In this article we will look at cold sore symptoms.

The other such symptoms which will be related to a cold sore as well as the blister are:-

1. A sore mouth which makes eating, drinking and sleeping uncomfortable. Unfortunately many who suffer with cold sores find them painful.

2. You may have a temperature or fever.

3. You could suffer from a sore throat.

4. The lymph nodes in your neck will have become swollen.

5. Small children who have cold sores will drool more than usual.

Although you may no first develop a cold sore when you first become infected with HSV and if you do develop them when you are first infected these are normally more severe than any later outbreaks that may occur. With the first outbreak of cold sores they will often spread to any part of the mouth and not just be situated at one particular location.

Once a person has become infected with HSV it will remain in the body and may cause cold sores to return throughout your life. Most people who suffer from cold sores will have between 3 and 4 outbreaks a year although some may even suffer more than 1 cold sore attack each month.

Those core sores which are recurrent usually develop where a person's facial skin and lips meet and it takes between 6 and 48 hours before a cold sore becomes visible. The first real symptoms that a person will feel when a cold sore is about to happen is a tingling, or burning, or itching, or numbness, or tenderness or in somes cases pain around the affected area and this is called the prodromal stage.

Things which may cause a cold sore to return include such things as exposure to sunlight especially to the lips, stress, fatigue, another infection (such as a cold or flu), a food allergy, an injury that has happened to your lips or gums or you immune system may be impaired. Also women whose hormones are changing which can be caused by their menstrual cycle or because they are pregnant and result in cold sore symptom issues.

As you see the cold sore symptom can be varied and it all depends on the person who has actually been infected by HSV. Stay out of the sunlight if you get one on your lips or use spf 30 on the spot on your lip it occurs.

Best Cold Sore Treatment - What is A Successful Cold Sore Cure

In this article we will look at a few different types of medicinal remedies that are available and are considered to be the best cold sore treatment that is available today to acheive a cold sore cure.

1. Viroxyn

This is a new approach in helping to treat herpes and does not rely on the patient taking the medicine internally. It has been designed to specifically attack and disrupt the lipid coat of virus (cold sore) and is best described as being a germicide rather than the normal anti-viral treatment. Many say this is the best cold sore treatment on the market.

As it is a virucide you apply it directly to the lesion (cold sore) and this will then kill the virus. This type of treatment works faster than many of the other types of drugs available which have to work their way through your stomach into the bloodstream and which are then able to deal with the sores and will only interefere with the viruses reproduction which has caused the cold sores in the first place. This is why some call it a cold sore cure.

Unlike the other treatments that are available which will interrupt the genetic code of herpes and eventually stop the virus from growing, Viroxyn strips the lipid coating off the virus and then kills it when it comes into contact with an affected area.

2. Zovirax or Acyclovir

This is taken as an episodic treatment and can reduce the severity of the outbreak, as well as shorten its duration and also shorten the time during which the herpes virus is detected on the skin's surface in a similar way to Viroxyn.

Because it is an episodic treatment it should be taken 5 times a day and can also be used as a suppressive treatment which will help to reduce the number of cold sore outbreaks a person has. If you wish to use it as a suppressive treatment you will need to take 2 tablets 3 or 4 times a day but it is best to speak to your doctor to get the specific dosage in order to treat the cold sores correctly. This medication has it's own defenders as the best cold sore treatment on the market.

However with Zovirax there are a couple of common side effects which you may suffer from and these are nausea and diarrhea. When you consider a cold sore cure, you must keep in mind the side effects in making an evaluation.

We have provided details on a couple of the best cold sore treatments that available, but it is up to you to research both natural and prescription treatments and use a plan that you feel comfortable with in your search for a cold sore cure.

Coldsores are the outward symptom of a much deeper problem They are caused by the herpies simplex virus, or HSV. This virus is passed on from person to person by direct skin to skin contact, usually with the lips or contact through the genital areas. The virus can be passed on to others during an active outbreak as well as the period leading into an outbreak. This period is known as shedding. The disease is an inconvenience, although it is not too much of a health risk, generally speaking. The one real danger comes when a woman passes the virus on to her baby during birth. This has been known to cause death in the infant, although this is rare.

So now that you know what causes coldsores, what can be done about the ones that you already have? Well there are several products that are available at the drug store that can help to shorten the duration of the outbreak. They can also help to lessen the noticeable effect of the coldsore as well. There are, however, no known medical cures for the herpes simplex virus that causes these outbreaks, so if you are seeking a medical answer then I'm afraid that there is not one to be found.

There are, however, some natural curing methods that have had some great success. It only makes sense that there would be some kind of natural cure out there for something like coldsores. So, as with any cure, I always look to the natural cure first, especially when the medical field is telling me that it's hopeless.

What is a Cold Sore?

Cold Sore Freedom In 3 Days I GUARANTEED Click Here to Know More

>>  Dont Even Think Of Trying Other Prodicts untill You Read This <<

Cold sores, otherwise known as fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the edge of the mouth and lip. Around the blisters, the skin can become inflamed and red. A clear fluid will weep out of the blisters if they break open and then, after a few days, the cold sore will scab over. It may take 7 to 10 days for complete healing of the cold sore.

The Herpes Simplex Virus or HSV causes cold sores and there are usually two types of the HSV. Herpes Simplex One usually results in mouth and lip sores and Herpes Simplex 2 will generally lead to genital herpes. Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can create cold sores or genital herpes if either type comes into contact with the skin.

You can have no symptoms and still be infected with HSV. Cold sores can be very painful for many people. Mouth soreness, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and fever are many of the initial signs of HSV. Before a cold sore appears, small children tend to drool. After the development of a cold sore, the blisters will break open, secrete a clear fluid and scab over, disappearing after several days.

By examination, cold sores can be diagnosed by a doctor or other health professional by simply asking questions regarding if you have been exposed or not to HSV. No other testing is needed.

Within a few days, cold sores tend to go away. Nevertheless, severe cold sores that cause you discomfort or are an embarrassment, can be treated. Treatments commonly used are, topical creams, anti-viral medicines and ointments. Though treatment only shortens the duration of a cold sore by 1 or 2 days, they do assist in helping pain and itching.

There is no cure for cold sores or HSV, but if they reoccur frequently, treatment can aid in reducing the severity and number of occurrences.

Cold sores can be spread through a break in the body's skin or inside the mouth. Also, coughing, sneezing and direct contact with a cold sore can also aid in the spread of the virus. Touching fluid that has been contaminated, i.e. kissing an affected person, will also cause spread.

By touching a cold sore or using the same items that an infected person has been using, the virus can spread from one area of someone's body to another area. An infection in a child is usually caused by the spread of his or her parent.

At the sign or outbreak of a cold sore or HSV, caution should be taken to alleviate any further spread of the virus. Do not drink out of the same glasses or use the same towels as an infected person. Those that are infected should wash their hands regularly, especially after application of topical medications and ointments. Seek help from a medical professional regarding prescriptions for more severe cases or cases that are reoccurring frequently. As stated previously, there is no cure for HSV, but with treatment, the outbreaks can be minimized, far less severe and easier to tolerate.
