Cold Sore Treatments You Need To Know

Cold sore treatments are essentially categorized into two broad groups, over-the-counter (OTC) medications and creams, and home cold sore remedies. In this article, we will look at OTC medications as well as home remedies for cold sores available for our use.

In case you do not know, cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Even this virus has two types, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 is the one that normally causes facial cold sores, though Type 2 has also been reported to cause sores on our face too even though it is mainly responsible for genital sores. Though huge investments have been poured into researching for a cure for cold sores, unfortunately, the medical industry has yet to be able to formulate a complete cold sore treatment to eliminate cold sores. What we have in the market are only medications and creams that can soothe the pain and bring itch relief and in some cases, quicken the healing process. Natural cold sore treatment seems to have answers to curing cold sores but as there have not been conclusive medical researches done in this area, only those who have benefited personally can testify of their effectiveness.

Over-The-Counter (OTC) Medications and Creams

As mentioned, such a form of cold sore treatment is primarily intended to alleviate the pain, itchiness and discomfort to the sufferer. There are others that have antiviral and antibiotic properties that inhibit the cold sore lesion development and accelerate the healing process.

1. You can easily find products containing docosanol, benzocaine, lidocaine, camphor, zinc, lysine, tetracaine or phenol off the shelf that are effective against cold sores.

2. Lip balms containing the compound petrolatum are pretty effective moisturizers. They prevent cold sores from peeling, cracking and bleeding and offer pain relief.

Home Remedies for Cold Sores

Cold sore remedies are cheap and easy to prepare cold sore treatments.

1. Applying ice at first sign of tingling for about 20 minutes and repeated applications throughout the day is effective in slowing the cold sore lesion development.

2. Topical medication containing zinc is useful

3. Applying tea bags on your cold sores is another effective cold sore treatment. As tea contains tannic acid which is antiviral, the herpes simplex virus is suppressed.

4. L-lysine (2 to 4 g) may be consumed daily under the advice of your doctor.

These are some useful cold sore treatment methods. To learn more about how to cure your cold sores naturally with effective cold sore treatment and remedies, visit my blog.

Cold Sore Care - Facts You Should Know

Cold Sore Freedom In 3 Days I GUARANTEED Click Here to Know More

>>  Dont Even Think Of Trying Other Prodicts untill You Read This <<

Cold sore care is at the top of the list for anyone who has ever had one of these painful sores before. While most people have heard of cold sores, many don't really understand what they are caused from or how to prevent them. Here are some cold sore facts to help in giving you a better understanding.

1. A cold sore and a canker sore are completely unrelated.

A lot of people have a misunderstanding on this one. A canker sore forms on the inside of your mouth, gums, or tongue and it is not a virus.

A cold sore forms on the outside of your mouth, in most cases, it is a virus. It comes as the result of having the herpes simplex virus type 1.

2. There is no complete cure for cold sores.

While there are many ways of treating a cold sore and preventing them from forming, there still is no cure for herpes yet. The virus stays dormant in your central nervous system, just waiting to become active.

3. Stress can cause an outbreak.

This is very true. Emotional stress is one of, if not the biggest, cause for breakouts. Other causes can also include an illness as well as other reasons. When the virus suddenly becomes active, it moves down the nerves and immediately causes a blister form.

4. Cold sores are contagious.

If you have an active cold sore, you can easily spread it to others. Kissing or sharing the same cup can cause it to spread. Sharing a towel or toothbrush are just a few of the many ways this virus gets spread.

5. Diet and exercise can help in cold sore prevention.

This is a fact that many people overlook. Diet and exercise will help in strengthening your immune system, which is turns helps to keep the virus dormant. By getting regular exercise, eating a healthy diet, and getting enough sleep, are good examples of cold sore care that will lead to keeping the virus from causing a breakout.

6. The virus can be spread to other places on your body.

After touching an active blister, be sure to wash your hands. If you don't and you touch your eyes, you can spread the virus.

7. Catching the symptoms early can lead to preventing the sore from breaking out.

There are several ways to prevent a sore from blistering if you start treating it immediately when you first feel the signs of it developing. There are many cold sore care products that can aid in preventing a breakout. That's much better than doing nothing and having a painful sore for the next two weeks.

The Herpes Simplex Virus - The Culprit Behind Cold Sores

Cold Sore Freedom In 3 Days I GUARANTEED Click Here to Know More

>>  Dont Even Think Of Trying Other Prodicts untill You Read This <<

Do you suffer from cold sores or the herpes simplex virus? If so, you are certainly not alone. An estimated 100 million Americans have acquired the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) which causes cold sores. These mouth sores can be a real pain to say the least. A cold sore is a small reddish or purple blister that is the end result of the herpes virus flaring up in your body. There are two types of Herpes Simplex Virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Let's take a look at the differences between the two and how they can affect you.

HSV-2

Herpes Simplex Virus 2 is the strain of the virus that causes genital herpes. Approximately 22% of American adults have HSV-2. What is even more frightening is the fact that two thirds of them do not even realize it and can be continuing to further spread the virus. It is spread by those who are having an active outbreak having unprotected sex with those who do not have it. With that said though, even having protected sex offers no guarantee that the virus will not be passed.

HSV-1

Herpes Simplex Virus 1 is the form of herpes that causes mouth sores. Because the herpes simplex virus is highly contagious, you should always avoid skin-to-skin contact with an open cold sore in order to avoid getting the virus.

Also, any kind of herpes virus is dangerous to newborns. It can easily be spread to the baby in the first weeks of life if he or she is kissed by someone with an active cold sore (oral herpes).

Early action in treating a cold sore during the initial tingling or burning stage may help in stopping the blister from forming, or help the cold sore heal faster once it has formed. They will generally clear up without treatment in seven to 10 days. Most people don't need treatment, since they go away on their own, but some over the counter medications can offer some relief. The key with these medicines is to begin treatment before the blister appears. If you wait until after it has already formed or broken open, it will be too late.

Keep in mind that cold sores are extremely contagious until they have completely healed and the affected skin has returned to normal. But even then there is still the possibility of spreading the virus for some time even after the skin has healed. If for any reason you don't see complete healing within 2 weeks, or it gets worse, talk to your doctor about the best way of treating a cold sore.

How to Get Rid of Cold Sores

Cold Sore Freedom In 3 Days I GUARANTEED Click Here to Know More

>>  Dont Even Think Of Trying Other Prodicts untill You Read This <<

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, which is believed to lie in our nerve cells of our body until it is triggered by stress, anxiety, a cold or excessive exposure to the sun. They can last anywhere from 7 to 14 days.

Herpes is a virus that will remain in the body for life. Even though the cold sore will be healed, the virus will just withdraw back into the nerve cells.

Attempting to cover a cold sore with makeup will just worsen the problem. Even though you can?t do much about the way a cold sore looks, you can do a few things to help minimize the unpleasant feeling, and hopefully stop it from coming back, and most importantly prevent passing on your cold sore to others.Make sure you avoid touching the cold sore. If you do, wash your hands immediately. It?s also very important not to touch your eyes if you have a cold sore, because the virus may spread and extreme cases could lead to blindness.

You should also try and drink lots of water or fruit juice. If it is too painful to brush your teeth, try chlorhexidene mouthwash it should help. To help avoid getting cold sores try these tips:

? Don?t kiss anyone with a cold sore and do not share towels, cups and cutlery.

? People with cold sores should be particularly careful around newborn babies.

? Avoid over exposure to sunlight and cold winds, and wear lip barrier that contain sunscreen.

Prevention is better than remedy however; if you do start to feel the tingling or tickling feeling, usually the first sensation of a cold sore, get to it straight away before it worsens. The one thing that the medications have in common is that treatment must be applied at the very first sign, even before it?s visible.

If you are too late however, then try these home remedies that you will have around your house right now;

Tea bags: An effective remedy is to put a tea bag to the affected area. The tannic acid in the tea will act against the virus and stop the cold sore from getting any worse. Another method is to apply a warm tea bag on the cold sore. Doing this for five days will make the sores disappear.

Witch hazel: The astringent that is in witch hazel is effective against cold sores.

Salt: If you apply everyday household salt to the affected area it?ll make cold sores disappear in two to three days.

Aloe Vera: Rubbing aloe juice or aloe gel on cold sores is very effective in curing cold sores.

All of these remedies have worked, although if you have a weak immune system it may take longer to recover. So always wash your hands, and always avoid immediate contact with the blisters that are caused by cold sores. Apply sunscreen cream on the areas prone to the infection and never share your personal belongings like your toothbrush.

How To Get Rid Of A Cold Sore

Cold sores are caused by a herpessimplex virus. They can spread from one individual to another by direct contact between skin surfaces. Most people contract this virus before adolescence, and most children that are infected rarely develop symptoms at that time. The virus then lies dormant until later triggered by an illness or an emotional upset. This causes a cold sore, or also known as a fever blister, to occur. This is why one day in your late teenage life you suddenly get a cold sore.

A fever blister is not a new virus, it is an old one that has been dormant but has been reactivated from emotions or illness. Stress may cause you to get emotionally overwhelmed and may cause a sore to form. Affected individuals often suffer from recurring attacks. So if you have suffered from one you will more than likely have another one. Cold sores tend to accompany common colds and infectious diseases. This could be pneumonia or diptheria, characterized by fever. These blister or sores that occur are a type of facial lesion that form on the lips or on the skin area immediately adjacent to the mouth.

These lesions can be painfull and rather large. You can usually feel these coming on a day or two before they actually turn to a sore. They start out feeling like a small hotspot on your lip. When you feel this sensation take immediate action and you could prevent a flare up. This may be an early symptom. There are two types of the herpes simplex virus. Type 1, called hsv1 that generally only infects those body tissues that lie above the waistline. This s the type of herpes virus that cause your fever blisters or cold sores. Type 2, called hsv2 usually only infects those body tissues that lie below the waistline. This is the type of herpes virus that cause genital herpes. These are also contagious. Herpes cannot be curred, but they can be maintained. There are remedies and medicines that will keep the outbreaks away, both for cold sores and genital herpes. If you have genital herpes, you should seek medical attention to prevent future outbreaks and prevent spreading of this virus.

More than 40 million Americans suffer from these contagious lesions, characterized by an eruption of small painful blisters on the lips, or around the mouth or nose. Caused by the herpes simplex virus 1, they lay dormant in the body and become active later when something triggers them. In addition to stress, they can be caused by illness, menstruation, pregnancy, pain from an injury, sunburn or wind, being over-tired, and irritation in the mouth area.

There is no cure for cold sores, but there are numerous remedies and prescription drugs on the market to help relieve these painful, embarrassing sores. "Unfortunately," says Robin Barr, 51, formulator of Cold Sores Begone, "herpes is a virus that remains in the body for life. Once the cold sore is healed, the virus retreats back into the nerve cells where it stays dormant until triggered, causing a new cold sore to appear."

Barr's lifelong battle with cold sores led her on a quest to find a better solution than what was available. During her research, she came across studies from Germany suggesting certain herbs might be helpful in the early stage of a herpes simplex infection. "In my kitchen, I put together a mixture of glycerin, lemon balm, echinacea, golden seal and allantoin in specific ratios, and found when I applied it at the early symptom of an impending eruption, the sore never erupted."

Barr knew she had made an interesting discovery but continued to use it only for herself, and sharing it with friends and family who were also plagued with cold sores. A few years later, after getting a lot of positive feedback from people who had tried her remedy, she decided to start marketing it as Cold Sores Begone.

Cheri Gant, 58, of Boulder City, Nev., came across the remedy completely by accident while at work one day. "I work in a dental office in Las Vegas, and one day a drug rep. came to the office with a sample. I was very interested because of the severity of my attacks. I rubbed some on my face the next time I felt some tingling, and it stopped it in its tracks," says Gant, who used to suffer outbreaks every six months like clock work.

Cold sores aren't the only ailments for which Barr's formula has proven effective. A slightly modified version can help people who suffer from canker sores as well. Canker sores are open sores in the mouth that appear as a white or yellow ulcer surrounded by a bright red area. They are benign, but very painful, and usually appear on the inner surface of the cheeks and lips, tongue, soft palate, and the base of the gums.

"I found it in a health food store. At first I was skeptical, because nothing had worked for me before, but decided to give it a try anyway," says Beverly Kuchinsky, 70, of Los Angeles, Calif. "Other treatments took the pain away but it came right back. I've found this one diminishes the pain, and makes them go away faster."

Barr says Canker Sores Begone seems to be more effective for oral sores caused by stress and fatigue than those caused by eating acidic foods.

"The worst thing that can happen to a bride or groom on their wedding day is to have an outbreak right before they march down the aisle," says Barr. "I've heard this and other similar stories countless times."

Today, with many innovative product and prescription choices, its easier than ever to decrease your chances of future outbreaks.

Cold Sore Prevention

Cold sores can be very annoying, embarrassing, and socially incapacitating. Why wait for it to happen to you? There are some practical things you can do to protect yourself from contacting the cold sore virus, or at least keep cold sores from recurring if you already have them. Here are some tips.

Safe sex. Using condoms is rated as the top method to prevent the transmission of herpes simplex infection. But there is an even more effective way: abstinence. Though condoms effectively prevent the spread of HSV and other sexually transmitted diseases, they do not guarantee 100 percent safety. The best way is still to either not engage in sexual activities at all, or at least defer engaging in sexual activities until your cold sore heals.

Lip balms. Studies show that using lip balm helps prevent orofacial infection. Regular lip balms cost less than $2. There are also specialty lip balms designed to prevent dryness, prevent triggers and inhibit viral replication in people who have already suffered from cold sores. These lip balms claim to dramatically reduce recurrence.

Hygiene. Stay away from the personal belongings of a person who has cold sores. Do not share utensils, towels, clothes, and other items with an infected person. Also be sure to wash your hands regularly either with soap or cleansing hand gels. About five to eight times per day is enough. Wash more often if you accidentally touch the affected area.

Overall fitness. You are also more likely to get a cold sore if your body's immune system is weak. So always get enough sleep and eat a balance diet. Eat healthy meals high in vitamin C and other immune-boosting vitamins. Engage in activities that let you get a physical workout, and avoid stressing about little things.
